How can we measure the impact of a group working on sustainability challenges?

This research focuses on developing tools to measure collective action on sustainability challenges. It seeks to measure interactions, relationships, and shared impact.

Are solitude and social-time important for young people connecting to nature?

This project found that young people need both social time and solitude in their outdoor activities to build strong connections to nature.

Does outdoor science education help girls improve their science achievement?

Outdoor science education increased girls' science knowledge and maintained their science grades better than teaching indoors.

Does more screen time decrease connection to nature among young people?

This study found more screen time meant less outdoor time and lower connection to nature for adolescents ages 11 to 14.

How can we quickly measure environmental literacy in adolescents?

We created a ~10 minute tool to measure environmental literacy (knowledge, hope, skills, and behaviors) among students ages 14-19.

Do students with emotional, cognitive, and behavioral disabilities learn better outside?

Students with these disabilities had longer attention spans and fewer disruptive behaviors when learning outdoors.

Is there a difference between environmental education and traditional classroom teaching?

There is no difference in traditional academic outcomes associated with environmental education and traditional classroom instruction.
